Updated: Padres Darvish Dominant Again, Astros Star Profar Hurt

Astros lose in series opener

San Diego Padres' Yu Darvish remained nearly unhittable Tuesday night and Houston Astros second baseman Jurickson Profar left the game with an apparent left leg injury as the Padres took the first game of a three-game series in San Diego 7-0.

On injured list stint number two for Profar, he was forced to leave the game in the fifth inning. The 29-year-old Curacao native singled in the first inning for his only hit of the game.

San Diego's offense got rolling early led by shortstop Ha-seong Kim, who drove in the game's first run with a double in the first inning.

Darvish dazzles

Yu Darvish pitched six shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out nine Astros batters. His ERA dropped to a league leading 1.75.

Darvish has allowed just one run in his last three starts, a span of 19 innings.

The Padres have now won four straight series and sit atop the NL West standings, seven games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Injury Update: Profar out 6-8 weeks

An MRI confirmed Profar suffered a Grade 2 left calf strain Tuesday night. The injury is expected to sideline the Astros infielder for 6-8 weeks.

The injury is a big blow to the Astros, who are already without shortstop Jeremy Peña due to a thumb injury.

With Profar and Peña out, Aledmys Diaz is expected to get the bulk of the playing time at second base.

What's Next?

The Padres and Astros will continue their three-game series Wednesday night in San Diego. Lance McCullers Jr. will start for the Astros, while the Padres will send Joe Musgrove to the mound.
